Every class across the school builds in short mindfulness sessions during the day. Being mindful can help us to learn and feel relaxed and positive at school.

We have practised some mindfulness activities in class to help us feel calm and focused and help our minds feel less busy.

Try the ‘5-Finger Breathing’ technique in this video and see how you feel.

How does concentrating on your breathing make you feel?

When could mindfulness help you?

It’s Panto Time… (Oh No It Isn’t)

For this year’s End of Term Production of ‘Sinbad the Sailor‘, Year 1 will be performing ‘Rad Bromance‘ to the tune of Lady Gaga’s ‘Bad Romance’.

Please practise the song at home using the backing track below. The lyrics are in your home learning book and can be found by clicking the link below.

We will start practising the dance over the next couple of weeks and will give you information about costumes next week. Tickets for Sinbad the Sailor can be purchased from the school office. Parents and carers, prepare to have this tune stuck in your heads for the next few weeks!

Anti-Bullying Week 2019

This week is Anti-Bullying Week. We have been thinking about how to show kindness to others at school and celebrating everything that makes us different and special… including our odd socks on Tuesday!

Have a look at the video below and think about how small acts of kindness can brighten up somebody’s day.

Have you spotted any acts of kindness at home? Write them in the comments or in your home learning book this week.

Black History Month – Chelsea Football Club Poetry Competition

This week Coach Anthony from Chelsea Football Club came to assembly as well as our PE lesson!

He told us about a competition to write a poem, rap or song to perform to celebrate diversity and equality during Black History Month. It should be no longer, than five verses and it must include some the following words:
Building Bridges, Chelsea, equality, diversity, respect and celebration.

If you would like to enter, we have put a copy of the entry form in your home learning book.

Have a look at the video found at the link below for some inspiration: https://www.chelseafc.com/en/news/2019/10/01/chelsea-foundation-and-nike-team-up-to-promote-awareness-of-blac

Last week on Thursday it was also National Poetry Day and we learnt some of Lewis Carroll’s ‘Jabberwocky in whole School Assembly.

Do you have any favourite poems? Let me know in the comments. Mr P 🙂

Ready, Steady, Blog!

We are pleased to announce that we have now rectified the technical issues that led to the delay in our class blogs being active and linked to our school website.

Now that we are back with a bang, don’t forget to check in with us regularly to see how well we are achieving across the curriculum and to keep up to date with all the happenings in each class.

We look forward to welcoming your comments and will be announcing a ‘Blog of the Week’ in each newsletter.

So what is left to say other than… ready, steady, blog!

Journey, Quest… Return.

This term the whole school has been reading the book ‘Return’ by Aaron Becker. It is the sequel to ‘Journey’ and ‘Quest’ which we all read over the last 2 years. The book has no words, so the whole story is told through the amazing illustrations. In Return we find out what happens when we travel back through the red door to a world filled with colour and magical crayons.

Watch the clip below to get a taster of this brilliant book.

What was your favourite part of the Journey and Quest?

What do you think could happen in Return?
